Progress Report Sept 2012

Hi all. Here's the report I promised a while ago. Raven Flight (sequel to Shadowfell) has gone back to my publishers after a lengthy editorial process which definitely changed the manuscript for the better, but was a lot of hard work for me. Hoping very much that my editors don't want any more tweaking - of course, there is still the copy edit and proof reading to come for both the Aussie and US editions, so I haven't seen the last of Raven Flight yet. I've seen a draft version of the US cover for the new novel, which I'm pretty sure readers will love. On it, Neryn looks strikingly like Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss from The Hunger Games, only blonde. I wonder if that is intentional??

For the last few weeks I've been polishing up short stories for my collection, Prickle Moon, which comes out from Ticonderoga next March. I now have enough material to fill the book, but I'm still deciding what goes in and what doesn't, and considering writing more new stories - there will be several included that are new to readers. The cover for Prickle Moon is currently being created by the artist, and it's going to be absolutely stunning - I am so looking forward to showing everyone!

The next big job is writing the third Shadowfell novel. Today I made a work schedule for the job. I have to ensure the writing is less rushed than it was for Raven Flight, since that rushed writing led to the huge editorial job later. I prefer to take longer and get it (mostly) right the first time. In the next couple of days I will do a chapter plan. Then I'll keep to a strict weekly word count until it is all done, with time off built in for a couple of family visits.

Adelaide readers, a reminder that I will be a guest at Supanova, Nov 16-18, and ready to chat and sign books for you, including Flame of Sevenwaters. Sydney readers, there is just a slight chance that I may be signing somewhere in Sydney one day in the second half of November - I will put something up on the page when this is confirmed. It would be a one-off, as my visit to Sydney is a private one, but my publisher is hoping to organise something to coincide with the official release date for Flame.

Linda Baker I loved Shadowfell and really look forward to Raven Flight. Yes-I do think the resemblance to Jennifer Lawrence is entirely intentional:)!!

AJ (Amber) Hodder Shadowfell comes out on the 11th here, I can't WAIT!! So excited that it's going to be a trilogy and I have so much more to look forward to!

Meg Eilish I am about to read Shadowfell (saving it for the plane)
So excited! I loved Wildwood Dancing so much! I know this will also be an awesome read!

message 4: by L.M. (new)

L.M. I am SO super excited about Flame of Sevenwaters! I haven't yet read Shadowfell, but it is DEFINITELY on my list of TBR books. Happy writing!

Alisi ☆ wants to read too many books ☆ Is there any chance that you'll continue the Bridei books? I just have to ask!

message 6: by Linda (new)

Linda Baker I would like to ask that too- I loved all three of those books!

message 7: by AJ (Amber) (new)

AJ (Amber) Hodder I was at my local Indigo this morning and was chatting with one of the booksellers about how excited I am for Shadowfell to come out on Tuesday; he went to the back room and gave me a copy TODAY (made me promise not to tell anyone!) Yay! :)

message 8: by Juliet (new)

Juliet Alisi and Linda, that depends on the publisher. I would love to write another in the Bridei series only the (new) US publisher is unlikely to want to continue with the series - the first three were published by Tor and now I am with Penguin. I don't rule out the possibility entirely!

Thanks, I like it when people wish me happy writing!!

Tina Lewis My copy of Shadowfell will be delivered on Tuesday. I can't wait. I've been anxiously waiting for new work to be released. Now my problem will be pacing myself instead of devouring it at all once. Which will be near to impossible. I am even more eager for Flame of Sevenwaters to come out since this is by far my favorite series. Keep up the amazing writing, it's truly a pleasure visiting your worlds and making them ours as well.

message 12: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin I just preordered both Shadowfell and Flame of Sevenwaters yesterday, but I won't be able to read them until this semester is over, but I am very excited to see new Marillier books in hand! :)

I am taking six classes so I completely understand about doing school work first. If I only get some fun reading in at bedtime, then that's what I'll do. But I won't be able to stand not reading a new book from Juliet knowing it's so close. I've also pre-ordered Flame of Sevenwaters. I can't wait.

Jane Hinrichs Have you ever thought about revisiting Heart's Blood? I really really loved that book. I love all your books. Thank you for all your hard work!!!

Juliet Sharon71 wrote: "Will the Prickle Moon book be available in the US?"

Hi Sharon. Yes, Prickle Moon should be available in the US and Europe, in both print and ebook editions. I don't think you'll find it in bricks and mortar bookshops there but you'll be able to order it online via retailers like Amazon. At least, that's what the publisher tells me.

Hi Jane, Yes, I've thought about it, although Heart's Blood was intended as a stand-alone. I haven't made a decision yet! A reader suggested a wonderful concept for a sequel.
all the best, Juliet

Thank you, Tina, with my current workload, I need all the encouragement I can get right now. :)

Alisi ☆ wants to read too many books ☆ Thanks Juliet! I know I've searched your site every 3 to 6 months since I finished the trilogy years ago just to "check". I just ... had to ask. :)

Oh, I did enjoy it, thank you so much for your stories. I can't tell you what they mean to me. Sometimes these stories are our only reminders of the good in human nature.

I ordered mine from Barnes and Noble (had a gift card) and shipping was free because my combined order was over 25 dollars, but the only catch was that they have to be shipped together, so I figured I can wait :) (though it will be very difficult!)

message 23: by Jia Ling (new)

Jia Ling Pan All the best with the rest of your projects! I can't wait for my copy of Shadowfell to arrive tomorrow and find the time to devour it <3 I've been yearning to read it since its Australian releases. I love all your works and I'm ecstatic to hear that you're working on so many other titles to come our way!

message 24: by Shannon (new)

Shannon I can't wait until later when I can pick up my copy of Shadowfell. I'm so intrigued by the storyline!!!

Are there any chances of you revisiting Wildwood Dancing and Stela's story?? :)

Thank you! I'm currently writing the third instalment of the Shadowfell series.

The third Wildwood book is still on hold - my publisher will want to wait and see how well the Shadowfell series does before considering what comes next.

message 27: by Amy (new)

Amy My copy of Shadowfell gets dispatched in 2 days, I can't wait! Really looking forward to the new Sevenwaters book too, I think I might read them all again :)

So you already wrote a third book in Wildwood? Or are you waiting for an okay to go ahead and continue?

No, I haven't written Wildwood 3 though I do have the plot all worked out. I have a couple of other books on contract, and I don't have time to write something that may not be published. As I've mentioned, my US publisher was not interested in another Wildwood book.

message 30: by AJ (Amber) (new)

AJ (Amber) Hodder I think perhaps your US publisher should do some more market research on the value in putting a third Wildwood book out there; I'd buy it in a heartbeat! (PS: LOVED Shadowfell and am gagging for Raven Flight!)
