Bamfield West--boardwalk
The town of Bamfield, BC, popn 150 (locals say more like 100 permanent) is small and picturesque. Strangely the town itself is split into two parts, divided by the Bamfield inlet and inaccessible by land, and possibly air as they've built a training center on the Coast Guard helipad. The prettier side tends to be the more inaccessible Mills Landing/Bamfield west.
Despite being a Mecca for fishermen and kayakers, Bamfield west is unspoiled. There is a store that sells the odd postcard and a bit of glass and pottery, but that's it for tourist stuff.
I'm not too sure about the locals over there--I didn't meet that many. They are generally friendly, the guy in the store dishes out the biggest ice creams I've ever seen and is always helpful. Coast Guard peeps are awesome. Some of the others wear that sour, pinched expression of suspicion. It always makes me wonder what their story is...
When you boat over from Bamfield east you get to tie up to a couple of premium spots on the government dock (if you are lucky) or the general store's dock (if you're just shopping). Next to the store is the post office and from there, heading south is a wooden boardwalk along the edge of the inlet. I'm going to post a pictorial tour of the boardwalk--I might get some places in the wrong order--it's only about half a mile long so I don't think it's a massive deal. :)
