The answer? About 80 miles W/NW. And this is the first time I’ve used brackets and ellipses to designate lacunae while transcribing a message on a mylar helium balloon launched in Riverside county and found tangled up in some cholla cactus in a national park. Had the rest of the phone number survived the flight, I would probably be talking to a couple of friendly stoners right now.
