Where I write

Probably of no interest to anyone - but - I'm trying to think of something to write about that I haven't covered before. I write in the room  amusingly referred to as 'the music room'. It used to be where the kids kept their instruments - violins, saxophone, piano, recorders, trumpet, guitars - all of which have now gone apart from the piano which I play very badly. It's on my left. Behind me are shelves of books, hundreds and hundreds of them, anally arranged in groups according to genre and author but not alphabetical - though I would if I could! On my right are doors to the garden. But what's most interesting is that in front of me is a completely blank wall. I'm so easily distracted, if there was anything on it, I'd never write a thing. My desk is a cluttered mess, bits of paper with notes, lots of books, the phone - oh
and glass of wine. That's not usual but I've had a long day

Amazing sunset picture

Tammy I would like to read a book about an older less than perfect woman (MILF,Cougar). Someone who wouldn't normally get the gorgeous still perfect guy.
I know the books that I have read of yours have girls with life issues but not body insecurities.
Having said that you have probably thought of this or maybe you have even written one (I haven't finished all your books as yet). Any thing you write will be great.
Now start typing girl!!!

Tammy Or what about infidelity from a woman's POV

Tonya Polk Oh yes! I like Tammy's idea!!!

Barbara Elsborg You mean the woman is unfaithful? It's like a deathblow in the American market. I get a lot of stick every time I have someone even think about going with someone else! EG In Doing the Right Thing - one hero - Will - slept with his ex-wife - that had a lot of people up in arms. I actually like books that deal with the issue of MCs being torn between guys. I just finished reading Tully - for the second time - by Paullina Simmons and she has her heroine sleeping with two guys for a huge chunk of the novel.

Tammy Oh wow Barbara could you do it like husband nasty takes H for granted along those lines.
I didnt get all upity over Will sleeping with V. In actual fact I was all for Will. I'm happy he found his heroine in another book. If anything else pops into my mind I'll let you know LOL.
Ps I do have a life I just like escaping it in a good book

Barbara Elsborg Funnily enough, I'm writing one now for Decadent Publishing where the husband is horrible. Just ruined the plot there! hero doesn't know she's married. But I'm dancing on the edges of this. I've been surprised how much unfaithfulness for WHATEVER reason is treated with such scorn. Same with women taking a lot of crap from guys. We're not all alpha females!
And Will - ah - well first version of that he did get the girl. I had to rewrite after the shock horror of beta readers! I hadn't realised that that was the only triangle I'd written - until current one - though its not much of a triangle in this. It's too short.
Can readers cope with a love triangle? Will I get shot???

KindleRomance Reviews Personally, I rarely enjoy books with major trust issues. Even if there isn't cheating going on, I'm still not enjoying it. Just a personal issue.

Barbara Elsborg But you're not alone, Kris. That's the message I hear all over in the romance circles. The wierd thing is that I am super-trusting. I don't think I have a jealous bone in my body - so I find it tricky to put myself in the mindset of someone who is always suspicious. But I also struggle with heroines who are too strong. I don't like them feeble and weak, but too much in your face and it turns me off. Ah balance - as with everything!

KindleRomance Reviews When I first started to read again for fun, I refused to read contemporary romances. Each time I did, I got annoyed with something that the heroine did or with how the hero treated her. It actually upset me - which I attribute to the amazing ability an author has of pulling me into their world. I finally got over it by reminding myself that it was just a story. Thank goodness or I would be missing out on a lot of excellent books! However, I still get sucked in and, therefore, stay away from things that are too real - violence, cheating, people intentionally hurting each other emotionally. That's why a menage is ok but a triangle where one person loses isn't. I can put myself in either of their shoes, but in one I get mind blowing orgasms, and in the other somebody gets really hurt.

Can I just add that I love your postings. I think it's cool to get inside your head for just a bit, and hear your thoughts about writing.

Barbara Elsborg Not sure in my head is a good place to be! But thanks!LOL
I absolutely agree with you about getting sucked into a different world. I can't watch upsetting films. I can read upsetting books, but not watch the equivalent on TV. I have no idea why. I've never seen Titanic - I don't like things where I know people will die when I've come to love them. I think that's why I can't have unhappy main characters at the end of my stories. I did in Doing The Right Thing - but hopefully made up for it in Finding the Right One. But it's not something I feel comfortable about.

Kathleen Hi Barbara, Hi Kris,

I must be weird because for some reason I like reading a book where the heroine catches her husband with another woman. Of course then she just has to go off and find the perfect man for herself, LOL. I think you could write a great story where the wife cheats and the husband finds them. I think that would be a great story line because I know that you would have him find just the right woman to help him get over her, maybe a woman who has secretly held a torch for him but never acted on it because he was married. The angst that could be written in that situation would be fantastic. OHHH, she had been so much in love with him for YEARS and has never been with another man. Hahahahaha, she knew his wife too and new that she had cheated on him several times with several men over the length of the marriage.
OK, I'll stop now :-)

Barbara Elsborg LOL, Kathleen. You a writer???

Nope and that is about as close to writing a book that I'll ever get, LOL.
