Why I Write

My first published novel, Forbidden Romance took many years to complete, as I tried to work on it between vacations and other times I had some leisure time. As other writers may state you write when you have that "feeling" to write, and one does not always have the opportunity to write when that "feeling" to write transpires. There were even times while I was driving that I felt like writing something, but when I got to my destination I did not feel like writing; however, as time has marched on, I have more and more of a desire to produce more works of fiction for those eager to read more.

The idea for the heroine of my story came from an actual family member, but I changed the name and added additional settings that were not a part of the actual family member's life. My heroine lives in Virginia, but the role model came from North Carolina in a bordering county.

As my bio states, I am intrigued by my rich mountain heritage and feel quite welcome in that atmosphere whenever I am afforded the opportunity to be there. In June and August of 2012, I had the chance to spend a little time in this welcoming area. Sometimes, I take photographs which inspire me to compose a story based upon that particular area of the region. Thus, trips to those areas provide me with a wealth of writing ideas.

At the moment, I am in the process of creating short stories for an anthology of short stories with settings based in Grayson County, VA. My goal is to have this book ready by the end of summer 2013. In the mean time I am also working on a second novel, also based in Grayson County that has a horror theme.

Stay tuned for more of my thoughts about writing in the historical fiction genre.
