Neil Armstrong

Neal Stephenson and I were not standing in order to make it quite clear who Neil #1 was and would always be.

I spent a couple of days in Neil Armstrong's company. He was as nice, as modest and as wise as anybody could have hoped for. If you ever wondered what my face looks like when I'm going "This is really happening, and I am the luckiest man in the world," it looks a lot like it does in this photo.

His achievements were the stuff of legend, and I am lucky to have known him, if only for a brief time,  I am sad that he's gone, proud as a member of the human race that he did what he did for all of us.

Emily How in the heck did you manage to meet Neil Armstrong? That's awesome! Anyway, well said piece about him, I couldn't have said it better myself. :)

Kevin Cunningham With the reasons of Lance being in the news lately, Neil also is clearly Armstrong #1 as well.

R.I.P. Neil Armstrong, thanks for helping us look up a little more often.

Linda Isakson The three best Neil/Neal's ever!

Jeanine Halada I remember being in front of the television with my family when Neil Armstrong stepped foot on the moon. It is one of those memories indelibly printed in my mind. He also is a fellow Ohioan and being born in Ohio and living there at that time made this momentous occasion even more special...I have been blessed to see so many changes in my 58 years....

Scott Alexander May the death of this great man remind Americans why the space program is so crucial. We have forgotten what those amazing firsts were for. Let his passing remind us to look once more to the heavens where Neil once graced the moon.

message 6: by David (new)

David "The universe is probably littered with the one-planet graves of cultures which made the sensible economic decision that there's no good reason to go into space--each discovered, studied, and remembered by the ones who made the irrational decision."

Joseph Buro Cool.

Jos I also was lucky enough to meet him in LA, being his assistant for that weekend I totally agree with you Neil. He was one of the nicest persons I have ever met.

He now started his trip to the final frontier... Godspeed Neil!
