Excerpt from Sto's House Presents... Mutants with a Twist
Here is an excerpt from the first draft of book #3 in the Sto's House series:
They were barely out of the room when a group of girls I had noticed watching us earlier walked in my direction. I had a feeling this wasn’t going to be a fun conversation.
One of the girls – I’m assuming the leader of the pack – sat down next to me. If I had hackles, they would have been ramrod straight at that point.
“So, you’re Jay’s latest one, huh?” was her opening banter.
“Nope,” I responded. “Just one of a houseful.”
The girl looked confused – I’m sure it wasn’t an unfamiliar expression for her – but plowed forward. “You know he’s going to dump you after he has sex with you.”
“Well then I guess we’ll be together for a long time.”
Again, the look of confusion. “You’re not from where he’s from.”
“Earth?”
“You know what I mean. And you’ll never fit in there, no matter how much money you spend on a new wardrobe.”
I pushed the chair back slightly and crossed my legs. “I honestly, and thankfully, have no idea what you are talking about.”
She waved her hand to encompass me from head to toe. “This doesn’t make you better than.”
I raised my brows at her. “Better than what?”
“Than you are, of course.”
I grinned slightly. “Not much does, actually. I think I’ve actually reached the limit.”
I knew she was getting annoyed; it was obvious from her expression that I should have taken the bait from her a while ago. Problem was, I wasn’t exactly sure what she was fishing for…
“You act all high and mighty now,” the girl continued, “but you’ll never get your hands on his…”
“Ah Felice…” Jay said, standing behind my chair with his hands on my shoulders. “I see you’re getting to know more about my Diana here…”
I didn’t comment about the ‘my’…
“Diana?” she sneered. “As in Princess of Wales?”
I was surprised; that was almost international history she was spewing there. “As in Roman goddess of the hunt.”
There was the blank look I was expecting. She turned her attention to Jay. “We were just letting your Diana know what the score was.”
“Really?” Jay responded. “What score is that?”
“Fourteen to zero, me,” I said, leaning my head back against him.
“Only fourteen? Not really on your game today?”
I shook my head. “Lack of interest.”
“Of course.”
Felice stood, almost knocking into the waitress who was bringing salad to our table. “I have no idea what you two are talking about.” She looked down at me, both literally and figuratively. “But understand this, after he’s done playing with the likes of you, he’ll come back to his own kind, and you’ll be all alone.”
I looked up at Jay. “Your own kind? Klingon?”
“Romulan," he corrected.
I nodded. “I thought so.”
