Adapt or Die?

We’ve all heard of evolution. We get better as we get more experience - we live, we learn, we filter out the bad and we (theoretically) replace it with better practice. Evidently, the same should be true of writing. It would make sense for a writer, indeed for anyone, to improve the more they write - their style would mature, grow, alter and improve, draw closer to its pinnacle: evolve.
