You know, what didn’t hit me when I first looked at this cool collage…every one of those characters has a completely different personality from the others. Different motivations, different M.O.’s, different powersets and origins, different reactions to stress and adversity.

They are characters first and being female is part of that, not the whole of it. Nor are any of them written as a collection of male-driven cliches.

I’m not taking credit for that, I only created three of the women on that image set. They were awesome before I got them.

But it’s interesting, isn’t it?  People used to think a book of female heroines could not sustain sales, but we did for five straight years, and the key is these amazing, amazing characters. There’s not a character on that page that I don’t love, that doesn’t speak to me in some way.

I think that, more than anything else, has been the secret to Bop’s success over the years.
