What's a worldbook sidebar?

He's working with a team on composing "The World of Ice and Fire" (or some such title) for publication soon, detailing the history of his fantasy world. So that's the "worldbook". A sidebar would be the information he's adding next to a picture or a map, etc.
Oh right. A legend or key. Just finished A Storm of Swords...what a climax!
