I'm at the point where I prefer to read on my kindle than in a book, I think it's just greed the prices they charge !! For example Jane Costello's most recent book "All the Single Ladies" is £4:99 on Amazon but only £3:50 to buy at my local bookstore !!! To be honest it just makes me not want to read it or buy it !! One good thing is it has made me look for free books and independent writers more on amazon which in turn means I have discovered some fantastic new books !!

I think the most I have ever paid for an ebook is $9.99 and that is only because I really wanted it. Otherwise, I get them for free. Usually my limit is $5, unless it is collection. I noticed that if it is over $10, it is usually from a better known publisher. Smaller publishers are usually cheaper. I have found so many great stories, many good stories and some not so good ones too, but when I got them for free, I don't complain! There are so many sites that can lead you to free books and even looking on Amazon, you can find them.
It really annoys me when Amazon expect me to pay the same price or more for an ebook that I would for a print copy. I have the same issue with downloading music from iTunes which is often more expensive than buying the CD.At least if I buy a print book I have something that is mine - I can give it away, loan it to friends or even sell it but nobody will ever be able to take away my ability to read that book unless I choose not to keep it. What I object to most is that when I purchased ebooks for my sony reader I had to go out and buy them again when I ditched the sony and bought a kindle! What happens when kindle is no longer my ereader of choice? I'll have to buy the books a 3rd time - I wouldn't have that problem with a print copy now would I?
I don't agree with downloading books I didn't pay for (unless it's a genuine freebie promotion by amazon, the author or the publisher) so I would never visit a pirating website but I should be able to take my ebooks that I PAID for and swap them to any device of my choice. I would happily switch to buying more books as ebooks but until I have that option I refuse to spend so much money on them.

Thanks for commenting! :)
Thanks Laura, I spend a lot of money buying books & am happy to do so but the price of ebooks does tend to make me jump up on my soapbox LOL. I didn't even get into the cost of ebooks vs print when it comes to production or I'd have been here all day! I do think this has helped authors who self publish / work with smaller publishers though. I'm much more likely to take a chance on a new author via a cheap ebook than an expensive print copy (you know those paperbacks that are double the price of normal ones?). I don't think I'm alone in the fact that I'm a loyal reader - if I read one of your books & enjoy it the chances are I'll be buying the rest - so getting me to try your work via an ebook promotion makes good sense in the long run.
The majority of ebooks I buy are from self published / small press authors. I hardly ever buy ebooks from authors who work with the major publishers!
