What Difference Does It Make?

Motivation is defined as “the act or the instance of motivating, providing with a reason to act in a certain way”. When I sat down to write my first blog, I never expected to be a source of inspiration for anyone. At the time, my motivation was to attempt to build a fan base for my work and give people a chance to “hear my voice” so to speak. What difference would it really make to anyone if I decided to quit after that initial blog or even if I actually kept up with it?

It has now been 3 1/2 months since that first blog. Some weeks, it has been a breeze, a delight even, and others, it has felt like a chore. But along the way, I have been amazed to find that there are people I have known for years who are also thinking of embarking on a literary journey and have found my blogs and my journey to be motivational. Here I was week after week, chronicling my experiences and sharing various literary tidbits I had learned along the way; feeling as though I was writing into the void, only to find that there are people who find the information I provide to be useful.

There have been times that I have been so overwhelmed or had such a long day, that I have considered skipping my blog for the week. But knowing myself, I know that once I make a single excuse, it will be all too easy to continue making excuses and eventually abandon it altogether. After all, if I missed a week, would anyone even notice? But the moment that someone tells me they have found a blog, particularly on a week that I almost didn’t write one, to be informative and helpful, I know that it makes difference after all.

I don’t claim to be an expert and I still have a long way to go myself, but knowing that I might be helping people along the way keeps me motivated.
