Anthologies, A Place to Experiment

Anthologies


One thing that really draws me to short story writing is that I can experiment. As fulfilling and enjoyable as the writing process is for me, it can get monotonous from time to time. Writing short stories allows me to nibble around the edges of different writing and genre styles, and to float trial balloons on ideas.


This is one thing working on the upcoming anthology for the Absolom character has afforded me. I think I enjoy, just as much as the reader does, seeing characters react to differe...

Hazel West That's exactly the reason I like writing short stories as well because I agree, it gets boring to write the same things over and over. I also enjoy writing backstories for characters before I start writing the actual novel to get to know them better, in fact that's what I'm doing right now. It really helps with character development, and you can even publish them later for the readers if you want to. But experimenting in writing is always fun, and, for me, I usually find that some of my experiments end up being some of my best work. Odd genre mixing is also always an interesting thing.

Hazel West I've been posting some older stuff here on Goodreads, but I've got a couple other stories in my head that just need to get out on paper. I'd love to share them when I do though =)
