“Maybe it was Heaven” excerpt from “Charmeine” the First Novel in “The Light-Bearer Series”

Tabbruis was dreaming as he was looking down hovering over the scene of white.
He saw Charleen and she was surrounded by clouds of white, soft pinks and blues.
Tabbruis, in the dream, had on a white robe with a breast plate of gold with a sword holstered at his side.
Charleen had a white robe on and her hair was gathered to one side in curls.  She was talking to him.  However, she was calling him ‘Tabbruis’, his given name, and his heart warmed.

In the dream scene, Tabbruis held Charleen in his arms.  Tabbruis said “Charmeine, you are my light and my love.  God has given the gift of our love to our family.”
They kissed and she whispered in his ear, “Tabbruis, I love you.”
He said, “Semper tuus ero, Charmeine.”
She answered “Semper tua ero, Tabbruis.”
The dream faded into misty clouds of white.

It was light outside when Charleen awoke.  She felt Tabbruis’ chest under her head which comforted her immediately.
Tabbruis opened his eyes and felt her stir on his chest.  He held her tightly.
Charleen smiled and said with a whisper, “You’re here.  You didn’t leave me.”
Tabbruis said tenderly, “No, I did not leave you.”  Tabbruis smiled at her and said softly, “Actually for some reason, I was so relaxed, I slept.  I usually do not sleep, but I did.”
Charleen smiled and gently said, “I’m glad you did.”
Tabbruis said with a smile recollecting the wonderful dream, “I also had a good dream, which is unusual.”
Charleen said, “Oh, you don’t ever dream good dreams?”
He furrowed his eyebrows and said, “Usually no.”  Then Tabbruis smiled and said, “However, you were in my dream last night, and it was very good.”
Putting her chin on his chest, Charleen said with wide eyes, “I had a dream, and you were in my dream too!”
Tabbruis said, “Well it is understandable.  We have had some pretty intense hours since we met.”  He closed his eyes smiling as he remembered the dream.
Charleen said, “Yes… but in my dream you called me a different name…”   She was trying to think and said, “Let me see, it wasn’t Charleen… it was Charm… something?”  Then she furrowed her brow and said, “Charm…”
Shaken to his core, Tabbruis cut her off and said, “Charmeine?”
Charleen smiled and said, “Yes, Charmeine!”  Then she furrowed her brow and said, “How did you know that?”  Not waiting for him to answer, she said with a wondering look, “Is Tabbruis your real name?”
Again taken aback, Tabbruis’ eyes widened and he nodded slowly.
Tabbruis and Charleen both bolted up and sat across from each other instantly knowing they had the same dream.
Tabbruis was stunned beyond belief!
Charleen was reeling!
Tabbruis could not believe what was happening and he said slowly, “Yes… Tabbruis… is my given name.  When I awoke in the desert… my name, Tabbruis, was the only thing I could remember.”
Charleen smiled and softly said, “Tabbruis?  Yes, I like the name, Tabbruis suits you much better.”
Looking down wanting to hide the hurt, Charleen said, “When I was found wandering around Holbrook, all I could remember was Char.”  Looking up at him, she said quietly with a smile, “Then my given name must be… Charmeine?”
Tabbruis said slowly and softly, “Yes… your given name must have been…Charmeine.”
Tabbruis and Charleen both could not believe what had just happened.
With a voice almost inaudible Charleen looked at him and said, “What does…Semper… tuus… ero… mean?”
Tabbruis could not answer; he had no voice to do it.  He took a big breath and shot out of bed.  He went out to the terrace and began pacing.  Tabbruis was confused and mostly scared.  He had never remembered anything before his waking up in the desert.  Tabbruis was terrified and baffled.
Angrily, Charleen got out of bed and stood in front of him and yelled, “Enough!  Look it… I’m really getting tired of hot and cold treatment!  You can’t just pull back and not explain anything to me!”  She shouted, “What does all this mean?  Damn it to Hell!  What did I do wrong?  I don’t understand?”
Tabbruis turned and looked at her with a frustrated expression while he was pacing back and forth.  He shouted, “Do you think I understand?  I do not know why you… I do not understand the clouds and white…  I certainly do not understand why we said the things we said!”
Charleen leaned back on the rail folding her arms over her chest and sarcastically yelled, “Well, this is just great!  I’m sorry if my dream ruined your day, but I thought it was a great dream.  I can’t help it if I dreamt the same dream as you!  Where are the dream police?  Arrest me, why don’t ya?”
Still pacing, Tabbruis just shook his head and muttered, “Hilarious.”
As Tabbruis paced, Charleen collected her thoughts looking at the harbor and said, “There has to be a reason for our dream?  I don’t know.  Maybe it was Heaven?”
Tabbruis was still pacing.
Turning around, Charleen looked at him pacing.  She said with sweetness in her voice, “Maybe it was Heaven, Tabbruis?”
Tabbruis stopped pacing and stood still.  He was warmed hearing his given name coming out of her mouth with such kindness.
She said again, “Tabbruis… maybe it was Heaven?”
Tabbruis walked to her, touched her chin to bring it up, so he could look deep into her brown eyes.  Tabbruis said ever so tenderly, “Semper tuus ero… means… I am forever yours.”
Tabbruis’ words were like honey to her.  Charleen looked at his eyes of deep green and said, “Those are the most beautiful words I have ever heard, Tabbruis.”
