Favorite Lines

My cup of coffee with its chocolate-flavored creamer sits before me on the table. Nine Inch Nails is playing on my iPod as it slowly recharges, getting ready for a long day of work. With a three-day weekend ahead of me, I'm ready to dig in deep and get the copyedits for Wait for Dusk complete done, well ahead of schedule. I keep reminding myself that the sooner I get the copyedits done, the sooner I can start working on Book 6.

The edits have been going well. The copyeditor's remarks are sparser than they were for Pray for Dawn, but I feel like I'm making more changes this round. It's not so much grammar and typos, but little wording changes to make the sentence or scene flow just a little bit better.

While I was editing at Panera a few days ago, I ran across a pair of lines that made me stop and smile. They just kind of captured the mindset of Mira in the scene and in a lot of ways, for the entire book.

"Valerio was walking temptation. He was dripping blood and grinning at me like a madman with a meat cleaver, but there was something right and warmly familiar about that grin."

Wait for Dusk is a dark, violent book. I know that my other ones are well, but this one seems to top the others in a lot of ways. I'm trying to find ways for Book 6 to take a step back from that edge before I make that final leap. I am happy to report, though, the Wait for Dusk does have a slightly lighter side that helps to ease some of the tension and blood-stained horror.

I'll try to keep a look out for more favorite lines and post them here for you to enjoy. Or would that be a form of torture?
