Character Interview: Mia Darien & Kat from “Steel Wings”

Since I didn’t have a scheduled character interview and Steel Wings went live last night, I decided to have a little fun and do a little promotion at the same time. So, yes, I spent this post pretty much talking to myself! Ha!

* * *

Mia: What is the name of the book where we’ll find you? Can you tell us a little about it?

Kat: The name of the book is Steel Wings. It’s a science fiction romance that is light on the sci-fi. Mia isn’t too technical or science-y, really, so she didn’t want to stress herself over the mechanical details. Besides, it’s more about character. Anyways. It follows me after I get my wings back — I’m a spacefighter pilot — and I get onto my new posting. It’s my first in three years. Little do I know that Dixie is on board. Dixie being the love of my life, that wasn’t ever really mine in the first place.

Mia: Tell us a little about yourself. Where do you fit into the story? What should we know about you?

Kat: The story is mostly about me, really. What should you know about me? Hell if I know. I’m a spacefighter pilot. I won this competition some years ago that says I’m the best at flying the Avenger spacefighter, but that damn title just follows a girl around. It’s kind of unnerving. I didn’t have a good adolescence, but I try not to think about it. Had some bad shit happen a few years ago too, but I try not to think about that either.

Mia: What do you think of the author? Be honest. We won’t tell.

Kat: She’s mean in her back stories. At least she was pretty mean to me, but she gave me this story. And that’s kind of nice. And she made me a little bit badass too, so that’s in her favor. Otherwise, that woman is just plain crazy.

Mia: How do you feel about the story you’re in?

Kat: Over all, I like it. The reason Mia wrote it goes back into her geeky past, so it has personal connections for her and that translates into how she writes me. Makes me feel special.

Mia: Do you like being a character in the book?

Kat: For the most part, yeah.

Mia: How do you see your future? Without giving anything away about the story, naturally.

Kat: It’s looking all right. The future certainly looks better than the past. Who wants to spend all their time looking behind them anyways, right?

Mia: What do you know about your author’s plans? Can we expect to see you in any future stories?

Kat: I don’t know. Probably not. I think she’s done telling my story, and I don’t see a series coming out of it, but you never know. I know Mia has a ton of other stories going on, though, so even if there were more about me, it will be a while in coming.

Mia: Let’s say they make a movie about this book. Who do you want to play you, and why?

Kat: There’s an actress named KaDee Strickland. She isn’t super well known. Mia first saw her in an episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. She played a kind of low-on-the-ethics stripper. (The stripping wasn’t the low ethics part.) But Mia thought she looked like a good image for me, and could pull off the tough chick part. So, that’s who would play me, and I’m cool with that.
