Shadows in the Night Ch 17
The Other glanced at his guest in the back of his SUV and smiled as he bit into a Little Debbie snack cake. He bet Jason was going out of his mind right about now. The thought pleased him. What he wouldn’t give to see Jason’s reaction.
“Ah, Jason. Such a shame you left your mate unclaimed. Should have known better. You’re going to regret that—I’m going to make sure you regret that.”
This battle between him and Jason had raged for a very long time—almost since the beginning.
The Other drove silently through the night, remembering. As far back as he could recall, he’d been in Jason’s shadow. Nothing he did was a good enough, and their father had let him know it, in no uncertain terms. Even his own totem wasn’t as magnificent as Jason’s—the bastard had been claimed by a black cougar spirit, something so rare that it was practically myth.
And what animal spirit had he ended up with? Just a regular cougar. Things had only gotten worse as they matured, and they’d finally come to a head in a most dangerous way: he’d tried to destroy Jason’s totem. It was the only way to destroy one of their kind. Kill the animal totem… kill the human. Their father had decreed his own totem be destroyed, but Jason had argued for banishment instead. Stupid of him. Even their father had known Jason was making a huge mistake.
“I’ll make you pay for all the things you did to me, Jason. And you’ve given me the way to do it.” His hate knew no bounds.
Snapping back to the present, he drove to an out-of-the-way property he owned. Of course, considering what his job was, he’d been one of the first to know when the property came on the market. He’d bought it immediately. Real estate was his business after all. The little cabin was deep in the woods; no one lived close by simply because of the land that went with the cabin—land that stretched for miles in every direction… his territory.
He parked the big, black SUV behind a run-down cabin. Thoroughly checking around him, he walked to the back of the SUV and opened the door. There, his arms tied behind him, was his prize. Slowly he ran his hand down the length of Chip’s body. He had yet to make up his mind what he wanted to do with Chip. He could mate the human, which was sure to devastate Jason. Or he could kill Chip—but that would end Jason’s suffering much too fast. If he mated Chip, then Jason would have to spend the rest of his life knowing Chip was being abused.
“Ah, decisions, decisions.”
Looking down at Chip, he mulled over the situation. The human was still unconscious, which worked out well for him since he wasn’t ready to deal with demands and questions. The Other lifted Chip and threw his body over his shoulder. The night was eerily silent; none of the forest animals sang their usual song. He unlocked the cabin door and made his way to the basement. When he’d bought the property years ago, he’d hoped one day it would come in useful. He’d love nothing more than to have Jason there, trapped and helpless—completely at his mercy. But this… this was even better.
“It’s a shame you got caught up in this mess, Chip. Nothing personal, mind you. But I’ve never been one to let an opportunity pass, and this one is golden.” The Other patted Chip’s ass as he dropped him on the small bed. “I’d love to see the look on Jason’s face when he figures out you’re missing—and who has you. He’ll know without a doubt it was me. Should be very interesting.”
The Other untied Chip’s hands. At the end of the full-sized bed was a length of chain with a padded shackle. He quickly chained one of Chip’s ankles to a bolt in the floor. Then he removed Chip’s shoes and socks. If Chip somehow did manage to get out of the basement, and through the locked door, he’d have a hard time hiking through the forest with no shoes. Add to that Chip probably had no clue where they were. He was tempted to remove Chip’s clothes, but that could wait until later… until he had more time to spend with his reluctant guest. For now, this would have to do.
He glanced around the basement. There were no windows for Chip to escape through or call for help from. A small TV sat on an old stand close to the bed. There was a tiny bathroom attached to the room, and Chip had enough slack in the chain to reach it. The Other had installed a small refrigerator that held snacks—Chip wouldn’t starve before he returned tomorrow. His guest was very lucky; he had electricity, running water, food, and sheets on the bed. All in all, a very nice prison.
“I’ll be seeing you shortly.”
The Other locked the door on his way out. It was midnight, and he wanted nothing more than to give over to his cougar and run his territory. Tomorrow, he’d have plenty of time to spend with his captive, especially since he’d taken a week off from work. He was fully aware that he’d pushed Jason past his limit—by the time this deal was over, either he or Jason would be dead. What he had done—stealing a mate with every intention of hurting that mate—was unforgivable. This time Jason would be the one to try and end his life, instead of arguing for it. ~To be continued. (LOL, I'm expanding this story and gave some folks name that didn't have names before. Thank goodness I noticed I used the The Other's actual name in this flash! That probably would've confused the hell of of y'all... Just in case some if y'all haven't figured out who The Other is yet. Hehehe.)Until next week y’all. Remember to drop by the other Bloggers!
