A question for my readers

Occasionally in interviews I get asked who I would cast as Roan if I were casting a movie. I have no real answer, as the Roan I picture in my head matches no actor I can think of. So I'm going to ask readers - if you could cast any actor as Roan, who would you cast, and why? (P.S.: I may steal your answer for interviews in the future.)

I have no idea! Roan's face keeps changing in my mind, the only constant is his hair. All I know is that Roan is unique; is it possible to find an equal? I remember my shocked protests when Tom Cruise was cast as Lestat for Interview of a Vampire. I thought he looked nothing like Lestat and that it would never work, but he pulled it og beautifully, didn't he? Maybe it's not so much about looks as about the ability to BE the person you're playing....

Neko That's hard to choose...
Indeed, Roan is just too unique to really picture one single person as him. If I were to pick a picture, It would be an altered/edited one. So far, I haven't seen someone that comes close to the Roan I see in my head...

Andrea That's my problem as well.

And while I understand your point oceankitty, have you seen Cruise's Reacher trailer? Made me laugh. I don't buy him as that character, and he can give the performance of a lifetime, but I'll never buy him as physically imposing.

I really didn't like Cruise as Lestat and that was back when I thought he was dreamy. Cruise as Reacher is just laughable.

As for Roan, I think Christian Bale could do it right. Of course, Bale can do pretty much anything. B.A.M.F.

*LOL* I didn't think Cruise was dreamy at all, I hated him with a vengeance! Still, he made a perfect Lestat for me. Not that the movie could ever compare to the book of course. They so rarely do....

I never read any of the books but wikipedia made my day:

Physical appearance

Reacher is 6' 5" tall (1.96m) with a 50-inch chest, and weighing between 210 and 250 pounds (100–115 kg). He has ice-blue eyes and dirty blond hair. He has very little body fat, and his muscular physique is completely natural (he reveals in Persuader, he has never been an exercise enthusiast.) He is exceptionally strong but is not a good runner.[2] Reacher's strength is combined with his savant intellect and military training, analyzing his environment and opponents at extremely high processing speeds. He mentally plans his fights using physics in a scientific calculating method, much like Sherlock Holmes. He knows how to break a man's neck with one hand (Bad Luck and Trouble) and kill a villain with a single punch to the head (Running Blind and 61 Hours) or chest (Worth Dying For). In a fight against a 7 foot, 400 lb steroid-using thug (Persuader), Reacher was able to lift his opponent into the air and drop him on his head.

*LOL*

Helene I would like to se Jim Caviezel from the movie Outlander from 2008.
He fits my imagination of Roan very closely except for the hair of course.

Andrea See, I think you can enjoy the Reacher movie as long as you have no idea that Cruise is miscast so badly they could have replaced him with Scarlet Johansen, and it wouldn't have been any less jarring. In fact, I might like to see that film.

Some interesting ideas here ...

Melanie I can't think of any actor who would live up to my mental expectations of Roan. Waaay back when the tv show Beauty and The Beast was popular, there were some gorgeous paintings done of The Beast, Vincent, almost man, almost lion. The paintings come the closest to Roan mid change. But Roan the man? I prefer my imagination added to your vivid descriptions.

Andrea And I'd be super adamant about the scars. I know they'd probably Hollywood it up, with no scars or extremely vivid ones, but it's important to me that they're subtle, and yet always there. Because Roan wears his mystery scars like he wears his tattoos: with an inordinate amount of pride.
