Former United States Poet Laureate Ted Kooser has a lot to say about writing simple poetry that is accessible to everyone and not just the high-brow intellectuals. I would like to suggest that you read his book "The Poetry Home Repair Manual. University of Nebraska Press, 2005" for his down-home advise on writing poems. I think it will help you find a home in poetry.

I tend to agree totaly with you Marc, being an Aussie in the competition, vastly out numbered by americans (I know it is an American site) & the judges lacking in Australian 'bush' poetry disapline knowledge, I know I am sitting smack behind the 'eight ball'
