Random Thoughts on the Ebola Outbreak...
After doing a little research, I came across a video online (link below) that got me to thinking... By now, basically everyone knows that West Africa is currently in the throes of the worst Ebola outbreak in history. With more than 2600 documented deaths across 4 countries, we may only be scratching the surface of a horrifying reality. The World Health Organization (WHO) has already indicated that the spread of the virus has gotten out of control and that it could be spreading exponentially even as I type. Thankfully, at least, according to the mainstream media, the virus, though highly infectious, can only be spread through contact with the bodily fluids of infected individuals. Yet, there are some researchers and alternative sources that claim that the virus may very well already be airborne (watch the short video included with the link below). Conspiracy theories may abound, but it's worth stopping for a moment to take a look at some facts. 1) There is no evidence that the Ebola virus existed before 1976. 2) The Ebola virus has no known natural host. 3) Dan Goosen, the former head of the South African military research lab in apartheid South Africa, testified during the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission hearings that his apartheid government was actively researching the development of a bacteria capable of killing Blacks. He also stated that South Africa received help from Western governments to conduct the research (this according to a BBC article published in 1998). 4) There are now more than 7 billion people in the world with estimates of the world population reaching a staggering 10 billion by the year 2060. 8) The world has limited resources. 9) History has shown us over and over that people who are in power and in control of world resources will seek to ensure their own well-being, even at the expense of others up to and including murdering them. 10) Once contracted, Ebola has a 50%-90% rate of fatality. These are just a few facts, and while they are alarming, they cannot be disputed. If, in fact, the Ebola virus is already airborne or eventually mutates into an airborne variant, it could potentially decimate between 50% to 90% of the entire planet's human population. That begs the question(which is what got me thinking along this train of thought): What if all the Zombie programs and post-apocalyptic movies of late, as well as the survivalist-based reality TV shows are really aimed at preparing certain segments of the population for some actual apocalypse? Such a scenario would solve the imminent over-population threat facing the world while ensuring that certain segments of the population are equipped with the necessary education that will allow them to survive (education occurs in stages--movies and TV programs represent only the information/awareness stage which will spur some to begin preparation). I know it sounds crazy, but isn't it crazier to simply dismiss the possibility? In any case, I believe that people would be wise to prepare for such an catastrophic event. Even if you are convinced that I'm some type paranoid nut whose musings are better suited for the pages of some cheap dystopian science-fiction novel, you should still have a plan. My mother always told me: "It's better to have and not need than to need and not have!" Amen, Mom!
