The good thing about writing 2 books at the same time...
Is when you get stuck on one - just pop over to the other! So simple! So does it work? That's a definite a yes. And a no. Because...? Once you've spent half a day reading back to see what's actually happened, finding all the notes, plans, and the 'what's happening next' bits, then comes the realisation it's all...not hanging together very well. So, wrack brains for the next step. OK. Back to the first book, get half way through and... OH! Remember a great idea that I had earlier for the next bit in the other book, now where did I put all the pieces of 'ideas paper'. Arghh, torn in half, one bit used for a book mark, the other for the shopping list...and, urgh, to wrap that old bit of chewing gum in. Right, back to the note book.
Actually, it's fun working on two books at once, fitting them into the part-time paying job, housework, the other part-time none paying job, washing, shopping etc. Getting the characters up off their lazy behinds and into action. Painting the backgrounds with the words-brush. Reading other books to see what everyone else is doing, for research and inspiration. Well, I have to justify sitting around with a novel in my hands instead of working, somehow. I even write a (very) occasional review!
However, both my pieces or work are around 48k words each so far, and some of the words do make sense. I even have the back blurbs written and the titles worked out. Which was quite easy since they fit in to the 'Structure Chronicles'and are about existing characters. But the covers...no idea at all. Still, got a bit of time yet before that bridge is crossed!
I do love this job!
