Funny Stuff
I have humor on my brain today. Tonight I'm going on a date with my husband to see Red Green. He's a Canadian comic, and I've loved his show on PBS since I was a teenager. His dry wit and uses for duct tape can always make me giggle.
My favorite shows have always tended to be humorous, but not the typical American sitcom kind of humor: the British show Are You Being Served? and Whose Line Is It Anyway? (which includes, I think, one of the funniest things ever on television). (I got to see Whose Line veterans Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood perform a few years ago and loved it.)
Online, I love S*** My Students Write and used to frequent Damn You Autocorrect until they changed the site recently to maximize ads.
I don't consider myself a "humor writer"; humor just isn't something I can consistently write. Every so often, though, some of my characters exercise my sort of sarcasm, like Celeste in Normal: "She had friends high up somewhere. Or compromising pictures of her higher-ups naked with sheep." or Russell in Brains or Breakfast: "He didn’t think to wonder why yet, and he certainly would have been stunned to realize he’d been a zombie for over two weeks. When weird Uncle Billy bit him on New Year’s Eve, well, he figured Billy was being weird like always."
Do you write humor? What sort of humor do you watch or read?
