Whoa. The remains of a giant squid — a creature rarely seen by humans — turned up in Australia. Scientists believe it died battling a sperm whale



Very little is known about giant squids, massive creatures that live thousands of feet below the ocean surface and can sometimes grow to nearly 60 feet in length. Japanese researchers only captured the first images of a live giant squid in 2004.


Clyde Roper, a Smithsonian zoologist and squid expert, says the creatures can be found in all the world’s oceans. And as for what the carnivores eat? “Anything they want,” Roper tells The Daily.
