In a piece in
The London Review (May 24 2012) Iain Sinclair visits Gary Snyder at home, and quotes Snyder about the cabin near the Forks of the Salmon where Lew Welch worked on his
Hermit Poems and where he says Welch had achieved:
"the meeting of an ancient Asian sage-tradition, the “shack simple” post-frontier back country out-of-work working man’s style, and the rebel modernism of modern art’."
