I recently learned from my publisher that contemporary romance sells better than any other genre. I have never written a contemporary romance, but after hearing this, I considered it. After all, I thought, isn’t it easier to write a novel that doesn’t need the construction of an elaborate world and culture? Isn’t it easier to write about things I’ve experienced, like going to work, checking my email, and cooking dinner?
