Shadow World Mondays: Playing Catch Up

Since it’s been such a long time since I posted anything new in the Extras department, I thought I’d take a moment to go back through all the ones I’ve already posted so you can catch up on any you might have missed.  There are two new ones (at least) in the pipeline that need some tweaking and polishing.

Oh, and don’t forget – Miranda Grey has her own Twitter now.  2012 falls between Shadowflame and Shadow’s Fall, so the events of the latter haven’t happened yet for her.  There shouldn’t be a lot of spoilery stuff for future books, but there might be hints here and there and some foreshadowing.  Her Tweets will definitely refer to the Extras.

Here, then, are the “Deleted” and supplemental scenes I’ve posted so far.

The Space Between (downloads as a .pdf)

The immediate aftermath of the climactic battle of Queen of Shadows.

A Lovely Way to Burn (downloads as a .pdf)

David and Miranda’s first hunt together; would take place a day or two after “The Space Between.”

In Memoriam (downloads as a .pdf)

A quiet moment on an important anniversary.

The Mission (downloads as a .pdf)

A brief scene featuring Sophie – it falls during Queen of Shadows, but contains major spoilers for Shadowflame, so don’t read it if you haven’t finished both books.

The Job Interview (downloads as a .pdf)

Another short scene, this one from way back in the past – featuring David, Faith, and Deven.  No major spoilers.

Remember, please, that “deleted scene” doesn’t mean it was supposed to be in the book – it’s more like a scene I considered including but didn’t, and then went back later to flesh out because I thought it would be fun.  A lot of them are character studies more than anything else; having the scene in the book would have screwed with the narrative flow, or just didn’t make sense in the story.  There are also stories I wanted to tell but couldn’t figure out a way to fit them into the books – “The Job Interview,” for example, would have to have been a huge flashback, and flashbacks are a novelist’s kryptonite.

Often when I’m watching a TV show or movie I find myself thinking, “What must that conversation have been like?” That’s the kind of thing I like to add here, moments that flesh out the world.

In the second category are supplemental materials that aren’t actual scenes:

Shadow World Q&A

A dozen questions I’ve gotten since the publication of Shadow’s Fall.  Spoilers for all three books.

Shadow World Rules

All the basic vampire rules on one convenient page.  Answers such burning questions as, “Do vampires pee?”

Song Lyric Reference List
Shadow World Playlists
Shadow World Cast Meeting #1

Strictly for fun.  Only really spoils the basic events of Queen of Shadows; all other hinted-at spoilers are false.  Does include some characters you won’t meet until Shadowflame, but they’re pretty self-explanatory (or their actual function in the story is irrelevant for this piece).
