I still can’t believe I get to talk about this, but The Mochi Promise is my first ever book. I’m a brand-new author and honestly never thought I would write anything. I’m dyslexic and have ADHD, and growing up I was often told I wouldn’t amount to much. So finishing this story feels like a huge personal win.
What helped me most was discovering K-dramas and K-pop. I’ve become a bit obsessed with them, and that made writing feel easier and more fun. I love the emotions, the slow-burn moments, the romance, and I wanted to bring a bit of that feeling into my own story.
Even though the book is fiction, I used real places in London and Korea because I wanted readers to feel grounded in the world. I wanted the settings to feel real, like you could actually visit the places Ted and Soo-Ah walk through.
I’m still learning as I go, but I’m proud I didn’t listen to the people who said I couldn’t write. The Mochi Promise means a lot to me, and I’m grateful for everyone who’s taken the time to read it. I hope it brings you a bit of warmth and that cosy K-drama feeling.
