Thanksgiving at the Lighthouse by Lighthouse Digest
Turkey Point Lighthouse, Maryland
For many years, I’ve read the magazine, Lighthouse Digest. Unfortunately, the magazine is no longer being publsihed. But their archives are still available online. Here’s a Thanksgiving “menu” the magazine has given us.
A Lighthouse Thanksgiving Meal
This year let’s start off with some Turtle Island soup. And then head to the main course with Turkey Point Light or maybe Hen and Chickens. And to brighten things up, go a little different and have Redfish Bar Light, Hambrooks Bar Light, Goose Rocks Light or Great Duck Island.
And of course, you’ll need the “fixin’s” like Dumpling Rock Light, Corny Point Light, and some fresh Cranberry Island Light. And maybe a nice Crisp Point Salad made with fresh Cape Romain and Greens Ledge. And of course there’s always room for Lime Rock Jello – we’ve heard that it is Ida Lewis’s favorite flavor!
For dessert you’ll most likely want a nice slice of Pumpkin Island Light Pie, Apple River Light Crisp, or some Raspberry Island Light Pie. And for lighter sweets, perhaps a few Molasses Reef Cookies. Or maybe this year let’s try some Coconut Point and Chocolatera Cream Pie or Plum Beach Cobbler maybe Strawberry Island Cream Pie!
We are thankful to the Butler Flats Light for serving us so well and setting the Table Bluff with the lovely Candlebox Island Lights and then helping to clear. And to the Baker’s Island Light for nothing being Burnt Island Light.
Don’t forget the Mayo Beach Light for the turkey sandwiches with all the left-Over-falls!
We are all so grateful for all that we have. Keep the lights shining. We look forward to Christmas Light!
Thank you to Lighthouse Digest for the years of lighthouse research and information you provided.
