Who Is Part of the Seekers’ Table in CRITICAL ROLE CAMPAIGN 4?

From the outset, we knew that Critical Role Campaign 4 would be played as a West Marches-style Dungeons & Dragons campaign. This meant that the 13 player characters of Campaign 4 would split into sub-tables, each playing out its own story while heavily influencing the other two stories happening around it. Game Master Brennan Lee Mulligan revealed early on that we would have three sub-tables in Critical Role Campaign 4: the Soldiers, the Seekers, and the Schemers. In Critical Role Campaign 4 episode three, we learned who would be a part of the Soldiers table. But we left behind episode four, the last of the “overture” episodes of the campaign, introducing us to all of the characters in the story, without knowing who would be a part of the Seekers or Schemers table. Instead, by surprise, the important information came to us from an unexpected source. A “Meet the Characters of Campaign 4” featurette released by Critical Role revealed the makeup of the other two groups in the campaign; information not officially confirmed in the campaign. So just who makes up the Seekers’ table in Critical Role Campaign 4? Well, we have to say, it’s exactly who we were hoping for.who is part of critical role campaign 4 seekers table julien davinos, thaisha lloy, vaelus, and occtis tachonisCritical Role

In Critical Role Campaign 4, the Seekers’ Table is made of Sir Julien Davinos played by Matt Mercer, Thaisha Lloy played by Aabria Iyengar, Occtis Tachonis played by Alex Ward, and Vaelus played by Ashley Johnson.

What Does It Mean to Be Part of the Seekers’ Table?

As with the Soldiers’ Table, being a part of the Seekers’ Table does not necessarily speak to thematic elements in the Critical Role Campaign 4 characters themselves, although we bet it will speak to this, too. Instead, GM Brennan Lee Mulligan explained to us that Critical Role Campaign 4 divided players into their respective tables by the particular playstyle they were interested in engaging with during the campaign.

He shared, “The Seekers are people that tie directly into lore, cosmology, magic, big questions around problems facing this universe that are in the weave of the dance between divinity and arcane, and magic, and demons, and fairies, and dragons, and these big kinds of questions. It’s very classical fantasy.”

With an elf, a revenant necromancer, and a druid among their number, we can certainly see how Vaelus, Thaisha, Julien, and Occtis made it into the Seekers’ Table. It also feels like all of these characters are questioning the world around them, seeking bigger answers if you will and trying to understand why the world is the way it is. And it sounds like the actors behind them really wanted to play a truly fantastical game—one we’re very excited to see unfurl.

What Has Brought the Members of the Seekers‘ Table Together?

Critical Role Campaign 4, episode 5, officially established the Seekers’ Table yet. In the end, it was the Seekers’ shared experiences and connection to Occtis Tachonis that primarily brought them together.

All four of the Critical Role Campaign 4 Seekers were a part of the battle of Palazzo Davinos, where House Tachonis attacked House Royce and House Davinos, completely annihilating almost everyone who was a part of these two houses. This intense attack involved nearly ripping the veil between the world of the living and the dead, a harrowing experience for all.

During this battle, Thaisha, Vaelus, and Sir Julien also witnessed the death of Occtis Tachonis, the worst kind of bonding experience. They all then also watched as Occtis was quasi-resurrected by the magic of Bolaire, Murray, and the Stone of Nightsong (plus a lucky Nat 20 portent roll), but his death was an intense occasion for all. They come to learn that the Stone of Nightsong is now deeply interlinked with Occtis and his existence.

As mentioned, the combined power of these events brings the Seekers together. In Critical Role Campaign 4, episode five, Occtis and the group realize that the Stone of Nightsong showed him visions of a place east of Dol-Makjar, and he feels that is where he must go since he is no longer safe in the city. Vaelus, who is deeply connected to the Stone of Nightsong, as it is a relic of her now-dead god, and to Occtis through his new bond with it, swears to join him and protect him. Sir Julien Davinos also promises to accompany Occtis, believing that where Occtis goes, his family will follow, and then Julien can have his revenge. Occtis’ father, Primus Tachonis, murdered Julien’s father and much of his house during the aforementioned attack.

Finally, though Thaisha Lloy sought to say longer in Dol-Makjar, her love and protectiveness over Occtis compells her to join the journey east. Additionally, going east will bring Thaisha to the place where the Barrowguard train, and that is the organization her son currently belongs to.

Where Will the Seekers‘ Table Campaign Episodes Take Place?

Currently, we know the Seekers’ Table will take place east of Dol-Makjar. The Stone of Nightsong gave Occtis visions of a place east, showing him glimpses of the Barrowgaurd training and the ancestral lands of House Tachonis. We yet know more details about the exact places the Seekers will visit, but hey! We have a heading.

Additionally, Occtis Tachonis and Vaelus’ stories both seem to heavily involve the Underworld/realms of the dead, while Sir Julien has a connection to the realm of Faerie, so it’s possible we’ll end up heading to more magical realms before long. The lost gods of the Shapers’ War also seem to play a big role for these characters as well. We’ll have to wait and see where their story will take them.

Here’s what Brennan Lee Mulligan leaves us with when it comes to the plot of the Seekers’ Table in Critical Role Campaign 4: “The cosmic and supernal hangs over the deeply absurd and foolish, and you see a stone possessed of the goddess of life hangs in the air before descending under Aranessa’s nodding gaze into Vaelus’ hand. A mother and father vow to protect their children. The cosmic, the familiar, the personal, it’s always all tied up together

Vaelus and Occtis both seem to seek a fuller understanding of death. Thaisha aims to heal the land and do good for her loved ones; she’d also like to know what went wrong in the plot to save the life of Thjazi Fang and find her son. Meanwhile, Julien appears to be primed for a story of revenge for his father. We’ll see how all these unique threads weave together.

Personally, we’re rooting for a Julien and Thaisha romance. Make it happen, dice gods!

So far, the Seeker’s Table has unofficially appeared in every episode of Critical Role Campaign 4, that’s episodes 1-6. However, they were only briefly in episode six’s Cold Open. We’ll have to wait and see what episodes they turn up in going forward.
