How Much I Enjoyed
— By Suman Pokhrel

How much I enjoyed, how much I held,
Pretending through life, how much I lived.

I lived my youth in dreams of others,
I lived my love by the world’s gestures.
Endless hurdles to reach love’s paradise,
I lived in my beloved’s unspoken eyes.

I lived through beats, hiding my heart,
I lived barred, from ecstasy’s art.
No shrine to hold the faith I wore,
I lived my God within my heart’s core.

.....

(Original work written in December 1997 as कति भोगेँ अहिल्यै [Kati Bhogen Ahilyei], {Song Lyrics] in Nepali.)
.......
Translated by the poet.
