Some Things Never Change In Porterfield — Josh The Gardener

Josh, squatting near the path, was inspecting some green shoots. “Ed, when did you plant these hyacinths and why did you plant them here?”

Ed shrugged. “I don’t know. Well, I don’t remember,” he added at Josh’s look of exasperation. “Someone gave me the bulbs and I stuck ‘em in the ground.”

“What’s done is done,” Josh said simply, making Ed feel as though he’d committed an unpardonable crime. “I’m going to get this area next to them clear and put down some good fertilizer for the annuals.”

“You gonna come back next month when it’s warm enough to plant them?”

“Doubt it,” Josh said, brushing the ground, no doubt looking for more things planted at random by the miscreant Ed. He frowned at another patch of green shoots. Ed fled to the house before he was accused of any more gardening felonies.
