Why This Story Matters to Me
When I was invited to contribute to Dogwood Creek, I knew I wanted to bring a piece of Ohio, my home for the past two decades, into the fictional Tennessee town. It’s something I love doing in multi-author projects, just as I often spotlight Upstate New York in my solo novels. These places have shaped me, and I enjoy weaving their spirit into my stories.
In Clean Sweep, you’ll meet Abbi Gearheart, a woman rebuilding her life after a painful breakup. She starts a cleaning business in Dogwood Creek, and through her journey, we see humor, healing, and unexpected grace. Seth Chamberlin, a beloved coach and teacher, is also navigating his own emotional terrain. Their paths cross thanks to Alicia Caruso—the matchmaker I chose to feature—who gently nudges them toward something more.
Faith, Forgiveness, and Fiction
One of the most powerful threads in this story is forgiveness. A definition I heard years ago stayed with me and became a cornerstone of this novella. Writing Abbi and Seth’s journeys challenged me personally, especially as I faced my own season of healing while waiting for cataract surgeries. There were days I could barely see the screen, and I’m so grateful to the friends who helped me polish the manuscript.
This story isn’t just fiction; it’s a reflection of real-life grace. The themes of second chances, quiet matchmaking, and teen mentorship are all close to my heart. I’ve spent years working with teens, and I loved bringing characters like Arianna, Bella, and Grayson to life.
