James Porter- One of the most impressive things about these early chapters is how they invite empathy without ever asking for pity and that’s something The New Chapter treasures in a story. Jacob and Grace are real people with complexities, contradictions, and quiet dignity. The scenes in Chapter 2 could have been overly sentimental in another writer’s hands, but here they’re raw and honest. We passed this book around at the end of our meeting, and more than one person hugged it to their chest like something precious. That says it all.
