Captain’s Log — Can*Con 2025
Hey all! I mentioned over the last couple of weeks that I’d be doing a Captain’s Log style game at Can*Con, Ottawa’s Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Horror Literature Convention. I say “style” because Captain’s Log is the solo RPG system adjacent to Star Trek Adventures from Modiphius, and playing it is much like a guided writing prompt exercise usually (my review of Captain’s Log is here) and that’s not quite what I’ve done here. I’ve taken (most) of the mechanics to write a branching narrative you can play through by making decisions and rolling some dice.
Now, since not everyone can come to Can*Con, I thought I’d pop it up here, too. To start with, you’ll need to download this character sheet and follow the instructions to create a character. (If you already did this, I should note there was a typo on the original version that might have left you with only five Focuses—you should have six, so if you used the original sheet take a quick count of your Focuses and if you’ve only got five, choose one more.)
Can Con 2025 Character SheetDownloadOnce you’ve done that, and either grabbed yourself 2d20 (two twenty-sided dice) or opened up a browser window that’ll virtually roll dice for you? You’re ready to start.
Once you’ve got your character all set to go, you can head on over to Part One: Sudden Subspace Eruptions. You’ll see more parts go live as the weekend progresses: three on Friday, three on Saturday, and four—three parts alongside the conclusion—on Sunday.
