Why I Wrote Saving Porterville

I wrote this book because opioids and Fentanyl addiction kills our friends and loved ones and needlessly ruins lives.

I live in south Florida but have family members who reside in a small town and its environs in Ohio. After many family reports of deaths, i.e. young men being found dead at stoplights behind the wheels of their cars and under other conditions, I pondered what one person could do. Feeling helpless and concerned, the one thing I could do was write about the crisis and decided on the novel approach. Although a world crisis, it is also a very personal thing in small towns as well as large cities. No one is immune to drug addiction.

The mute button seems to be placed on many of us writers who yearn to speak out on the matter. There is deep need to empty our hearts and I believe doing so is good for the soul. Writing can accomplish amazing things when the heart is involved.

Welcome to small town America where immense love, hope and joy remains alive in its people. My hope is that the book will bring to the reader more smiles than tears. Marie
