The Story of how THE OFFICER was created:
Installment #20 – After that marketing attempt what could I do now?
Feature: Lines from the book: "It was said on that day the whole apartment building heard an angry voice yell, "MOTHER!"
I forgot to mention this in the last posting; I also placed a few copies in those little libraries that some people place in front of their home. I place a copy of my book in one near where I live. My sister, who had two copies of my book, placed a copy in her neighborhood and I place two copies in two different locations where my granddaughter was living in Georgia.
My sister confirmed that my book had been taken on at least two occasions, so while it is not a book sale at least someone might have looked at my book and read it. I also verified that at least one location by my granddaughter’s house someone had taken my book out of the box.
At this point I was lost and did not know what else I could do so I just did nothing for several months after Christmas last year as life intruded on my ability and time.
Then in the spring I came across an outfit called The International Impact Book Awards and for a small entry fee I could compete against other books in my genre. I figured I had nothing to lose by entering. At least at disinterested third party, who does not know me personally would review my book and I would get more feedback.
I also came across a company that provides self-published authors with courses to market your book using social media. I reviewed the courses and purchased the course that could have me develop an online presence and it also provided numerous ideas for what to post. Unfortunately, just after obtaining the courses a health issue with my wife developed and for most of the summer, she needed a lot of my attention.
Here is one of the private reviews I received via email (I cut some sections because they have spoilers)
“I read The Officer shortly after you sent it. Good book with a surprise ending. I did not see the surprise ending coming. The book needed this type of ending to give it some snap if you will and to make it so the reader will remember the plot. Good move on the part of the author…
I like the main character, Lara Rose. She is portrayed as being not your stereotype star. For example, not portrayed as self important, or self absorbed or demanding to have special treatment. etc. She sees the beauty in Captain Madin and other military members and shows that feeling of gratitude. etc.
”
