Facing Old Memories & Experiences

As we heal old memories and experiences do return. These are different than flashbacks because we know in these cases that the past is the past. We can still have feelings over what has happened in the past - especially as we confront what has happened and try to process it with more understanding of ourselves.
One of the things that consistently helps is the knowledge that who you were then has changed. You’re a different person, who has different skills and new knowledge. And the decisions you made back then, were based on knowledge and habits and choices that you hopefully would not make now.
It is ok to change for yourself. You shouldn’t be changing for others, especially if you’re not comfortable with the change. Others can ask. Others can inform - but you ultimately make the decision to change, hopefully for the better.
And these changes toward healing don’t have to be large changes. In fact, small sustained daily changes last longer and end up being more productive than massive changes. Small consistent changes are more likely to stick as a habit too, according to those who study New Years Resolutions.
