10/15/2025 Snippet, FOR THE DEAD TRAVEL FAST.
Action! Also: Morrigan Ragemonger is a horrible human being who deserves everything bad that happens to her. We’re not friendly.
…
Morrigan Ragemonger had learned her trade in a hard Circle, and even harder war. She screamed out three words where a lesser mage would have needed fifty, and suddenly a pulsing, glowing globe surrounded her and the remainder of her swarm. She felt a moment of hot exultation as the enemy desperately swerved to avoid the globe, with two of them failing and spinning out in their own turn in a haze of burning straw and undead flesh. The third was a better stickman, which bought him a whole ten seconds more of unlife before Morrigan’s carefully-aimed light bolt shredded his torso. Then she screamed again, this time using a spell that practically embedded itself in everyone else’s brain: “SCATTER AND REFORM!”
Most of her escort managed to obey; one jerked and went slack, her face a glistening crimson from the blood streaming from her nose. Morrigan didn’t spare her a single look as she ruthlessly used the chaotic mess all around her to reinforce her obfuscation charm. It worked, too. The two hostile homing spells that would have found her otherwise were diverted, detonating instead at… the stricken, stunned escort. Morrigan allowed herself a quick grin. First thing that’s gone right, she thought, and pushed her broom to almost its limits.
Looking around, the grin faded. As she had expected, Alliance mages had reacted to the sudden deaths of their scout flight by hammering the area where they ‘died.’ She was now down five brooms and their riders, in a flight of thirteen. Normally she could have made this trip without losing anybody at all. Clearly the Wabash Front was even worse than she feared.
