10/14/2025 Snippet, FOR THE DEAD TRAVEL FAST.

I’m backtracking! There obviously needed to be a trip to the front! And action!

The ferals kept insisting on dividing up the past into ‘Ages,’ just as if anything before (or, honestly, after) the rise of the Universal Dominion meant anything. Still, it was occasionally, mildly handy. Particularly when it came to complaining about the current state of affairs.

So, Morrigan did not travel to the Wabash front via a teleport gate. That was First Age magic, and now so risky that not even the ferals would use them. Neither did she take one of the Second Age Dominion’s hoarded pre-Discovery aircars. The last of those had been slapped out of the sky by angry wizardry before Morrigan was born. No, for this trip even a Paramount War Mage had to ride a broomstick, and like it.

Normally she rather did, actually. Low ceilings and high speeds required some skill, and Morrigan had always been keen about towerchasing. It was distinctly different when you had to go low and fast because high and slow attracted unfriendly eyes.

The first sky pirates showed up just past what the oldest maps called the border of ‘Indiana.’ It was a flight of three broom-riders, reeking of necromancy and pickle-juice, and they fell upon Morrigan’s own swarm without hesitation or thought of safety. Two Dominion brooms were falling out of the sky before even she could react.
