How to get out of quicksand!

Seriously. I’m posting this because one day I may need to write a scene about getting stuck in quick sand. Or…I might get stuck in it for real. Picture the headlines:

“Old lady in Australia saves herself from quicksand thanks to Youtube!”

Now, can anyone tell me why this is so?
