I just found these notes in an old notebook of mine. I know it was from one of our weekend messages, but I can’t remember who was speaking. I THINK it was Rob. (Obviously, I should have taken better notes.)
There is no life with the absence of suffering.
People are obsessed with the event of the suffering past and causal “what caused this,” trying to make sense of the senseless.
Jesus doesn’t speculate about the cause. His question is bigger than the “why.” The why question can be a dead end street keeping us stuck in the past.
Jesus focuses on the future with “what’s next?”
When we suffer, we can stop (and get stuck) at the “why” question or we can ask “what’s next?”
Isaiah 58:12 (CEV) You will rebuild those houses left in ruins for years; you will be known as a builder and repairer of city walls and streets.
