“Harold Teeter was fired last night,” Natalie said in an even tone.

Sarah’s breathing froze as she absorbed the information and the meaning Natalie conveyed. Harold was their direct boss and hired them. If he was gone, then they’d have a new boss.

Not ideal, and given Natalie used his full name and kept her voice even told Sarah to tread carefully.

Nodding, Sarah readied herself for what looked to be a trying day. With any luck, she’d keep her job after today.

“Any word on who’s replacing him? Are they promoting or hiring someone?” It was a safe question.
