Stephen stretched then looked at the time and winced. He was going to be late and he hated being late. He picked up the phone to call Vanessa. A knock on the door made him look up. He set the phone down then rose.
“Vanessa.” He smiled watching her stride in.
“Figured you’d get caught up in paperwork so bringing food to you for a change. “ Vanessa held up the bag she had brought and came around the desk. “Now I know that you have food here and your day chef may get offended.” She paused then. “Don’t tell Tobias either. I wanted to surprise you so didn’t call them.”
“I won’t tell. “ He paused. “Maybe. What you gonna give me to not tell?”
“Ohhh..bribery is against the law.” She stopped beside him and set the bag on the desk. “Hmmm…I’m going to think of something.”
She lifted her head and he met her kissing her gently. Vanessa placed her hands on his chest. They pulled back and stared into each other’s eyes.
“Busy day.” She wasn’t asking.
“Yeah.” Stephen slid his hands around his waist. “I was looking forward to a break and seeing you. Thought I would need to cancel.”
“I came to you instead.” Vanessa smiled. “Let’s eat and tell each other about our days.”
“Sounds good to me.” He kissed her again and thought of how great it was to have her here.
