When You Hit a Wall: The Proven Mindset and Strategy to Break Through Any Challenge
Ever felt like you’ve hit a wall—professionally, personally, or in pursuit of a goal—and told yourself, “There’s no way through this”? The truth: the wall isn’t the end of the road.
It’s the test of how creative, resilient, and resourceful you’re willing to be.
When I’m coaching folks in sales or those searching for work, I remind them: just because the first route around the wall didn’t work doesn’t mean there isn’t another.
You can climb it. You can dig under it. You can find another door. There is always another way—if you’re willing to pause, zoom out, and take emotion out of the equation.
Too often, it’s not the obstacle itself that defeats us—it’s our own frustration.
Emotion whispers: “I’ve tried everything. I’m out of options.” But if you strip that emotion away, you realize: you haven’t tried everything.
Here’s how I think about approaching challenges:
 Before the Challenge
Expect walls. If success were easy, everyone would have it.
Anticipating resistance keeps you from panicking when it shows up.
Prepare your mindset. Commit ahead of time that you’ll find a way—because mindset is the fuel that keeps you moving when logic says stop.
 During the Challenge
Control the controllables. Don’t fixate on market shifts, leadership changes, or competition. Obsess over your actions—your touches, your consistency, your presence.
Dispassionately assess. Step back. Look at the situation like a strategist, not a soldier in the trenches. Ask: What routes haven’t I considered yet? What resources haven’t I pulled in?
Stay consistent. The biggest wins I’ve ever had weren’t from one big swing—they were from showing up again, and again, and again.
 After the Challenge
Win or lose, analyze. Did you do everything in your power? Did you leverage tools, resources, and your network? Did you manage milestones with discipline?
Extract the lesson. Even a “stalemate” teaches you something you’ll need for the next battle. The only true loss is failing to learn.
Reset quickly. Celebrate the win briefly. Mourn the loss briefly. Then—move forward stronger and smarter.
Walls don’t stop the best performers. Walls reveal them.
If you’re facing your own wall right now, pause and ask yourself: Am I letting emotion convince me I’m out of options… or am I ready to find another way?
