Is This How Doctor Doom Will Look in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY?

Ever since Marvel Studios revealed Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom last year, we’ve been wondering how Marvel would have him look. After all, Victor von Doom’s costume is one of the most iconic in comic book history. And it’s also one of Jack Kirby’s most memorable costume designs. But with Robert Downey Jr. playing him, would MCU Doom’s attire just be a variation of the Iron Man armor? Well, it looks like we have our first look at what Doom will look like, and it’s very comics-accurate. The image appeared at a Disney Licensing Expo in China, and appears to be all-new artwork. Via Comic Book Movie, we learned that the X account CinXperience posted this image.

Even though the look is very classic Doctor Doom, there are some tells that this is all new art. The pattern on the torso appears to be something created just for this artwork, and not something Doom wears in the comics. In addition, there are details on Doom’s arm gauntlets that look new, and not from any previous comic or film version of the character. The belt buckle also seems unique. However, the mask and the hood look very much like the modern comic book artwork of Doom’s costume. Especially from artists like Alex Ross and Adi Granov. If this is indeed the look, we can’t say we have many complaints.

It’s not unusual for licensing expos to reveal highly anticipated costumes from superhero movies. A few months back, a licensing event gave away what Spidey’s costume would look like in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. And lo and behold, it is pretty much what we’re getting. So there is a very good chance this is what Doctor Doom’s final costume looks like when Avengers: Doomsday lands in theaters next year. And if it is, it could be far worse. Just think of this compared to Doom’s look in the 2015 Fantastic Four movie, and breathe a sigh of relief.
