The Lazy Susan could comfortably carry and sustain half a dozen people for a year if needed, and that meant there were plenty of places few ever went.

The Shambler worked its way through the narrow maintenance corridor within the walls.

It was guided by something beyond its understanding: a programmed instinctual desire to find others and spread.

Memories of who it used to be were mostly gone. A few images of a wife and child remained, their names long forgotten.

It didn’t remember its research partner injecting it with their virus.

For the glory of science, was his reason.
