They turned to head back when their HUDS’ proximity alerts went off.

“Ah hell,” Robert mumbled as his display showed a large movement within a hundred yards. He scanned the area and only saw debris. “They’re buried or underground. Let’s move!”

They broke into a run back to their ship, their suits making their movements a blur. It didn’t help Robert relax. Even with their space armor they could be overpowered by Shamblers.

It’s why the Sky Marshall decreed the Space Defense Force rely on aerial or orbital bombardment. Troops or mech drones located the Shamblers and a bombardment commenced.
