The Agent Layer (Top Level)

This is where AI agents operate as autonomous economic actors, fundamentally different from today’s passive bots.

We’re talking about intelligent entities that can negotiate, make decisions, and complete complex tasks without human intervention (yet to achieve the goals set by the human).

The ecosystem will feature specialized agent types: Task Agents that excel at specific jobs like booking travel or conducting research, Meta Agents that coordinate multiple task agents for complex objectives, Personal Agents that represent individual users’ interests and preferences, and Corporate Agents that act on behalf of businesses, negotiating and transacting at machine speed.

The critical infrastructure at this layer goes beyond simple APIs.

We’ll need robust agent identity and reputation systems—think of it as LinkedIn for AI agents where past performance and reliability are tracked.

Inter-agent communication protocols will enable these entities to negotiate and collaborate, while trust and verification mechanisms ensure bad actors can’t game the system.

Perhaps most importantly, agent-to-agent payment rails will enable instant, frictionless transactions without human intermediaries.
