I’m not even that far in this book and already I can totally believe that story about Mishima having a hands free orgasm from performing mock seppuku
It’s funny that if Mishima had been into like inflation instead of classically-tinged homoerotic S&M his internal struggles would have been almost exactly the same but he could’ve never published a book about it. Wouldn’t have the same grandeur despite filling a similar structural role.
I always feel like that’s a problem with movies that want to show a sinking into sexual excess or wrestling with their sexuality – it’s a visual medium so they have to present it in a way that doesn’t look ridiculous, absurd, or just lame, but most real world examples are exactly that!
