Are You a Tiger Writer or Reader? Take the Test.
I just finished reading Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mom. And yes, I know the book came out last year. It took me this long to get around to it. I was really amazed, to read comments about the book, only to find that so many of the people commenting hadn’t read the book. They were commenting based on an article or book or comment someone else had made. Personally, I thought the book was great. Chua’s parenting techniques were interesting to say the least. Of course, it caused me to evaluate my own parenting skills.
But what about me as a reader and as a writer? What about you? For readers, here are a few questions to think about.
How many hours do you spend reading a day? How many books do you read a year? Reading or sex? Reading or food? Reading or sleep? Do you sneak read (in the bathroom, at work, during lectures, etc.)? Have you ever burned food because you started reading and forgot you were also cooking? Any all nighters? What about all dayers? Have you ever called in sick to work because you couldn’t put a book you were reading down? Do you read and walk the dog at the same time? Do you read while driving (this might qualify also as sneak reading because you are supposed to be focused on driving)? Do you read even while people are talking to you?
For writers…How many hours do you spend writing a day? How many hours or words do you write a year? Writing or sex? Writing or food? Writing or sleep? Do you sneak write (in the bathroom, at work, during lectures, etc.)? Any all nighters? What about all dayers? Have you ever called in sick to work because you wanted to stay home and write? Do you come up with excuses to family events because you want to stay home and write or do you just say you can’t go because you have to write? Do you have a set schedule or daily writing requirement, no excuses? Do you skip playdates (i.e. lunches and dinners with friends) because you want to write?
What do you think? Are you a Tiger Reader or Writer or just a kitten?
